This forum introduced the latest international cardiac rehabilitation concept and rehabilitation treatment to China, shared clinical experience and provided professional solutions. It was chaired by Dr. Oliver Kieffer, vice president of Sorehsa, Switzerland.
Sport training is the core of
One of guest speakers, Professor Birna Bjarnason-Wehrens from Institute for Cardiology and Sports Medicine at the German Sport University Cologne reviewed the current status of cardiac rehabilitation in Germany and Europe, including the division of different stages of cardiac rehabilitation, the objectives, programs, costs, and implementation of rehabilitation treatment at all stages. She emphasized that cardiac rehabilitation is a comprehensive nursing process, requiring comprehensive consideration of patients’ physical, psychological, behavioral and social activities, and sport training is the heart of cardiac rehabilitation. The sport training in cardiac rehabilitation includes: aerobic endurance training; resistance training; balance, flexibility and coordination training; sensory training, body consciousness, self-control ability training. Professor Birna Bjarnason-Wehrens’s speech was focused on resistance training and aerobic endurance training.
Safety management of exercise training in cardiac rehabilitation is the most important
Another speaker, Professor Roland Nebel from Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic (Sieg Reha, Germany) gave speech focusing on the structure and quality control of the cardiac rehabilitation system, and how to develop a cardiac rehabilitation solution, assess the exercise capacity as well as monitor the safety of cardiac rehabilitation training. In the area of safety management, Professor Roland Nebel especially stressed the indications and contraindications of cardiac rehabilitation, and proposed the safe implementation of cardiac rehabilitation through the risk stratification of patients, active cardiopulmonary assessment and exercise monitoring.
Cardiac rehabilitation practice in China:
to bridge the gap and meet the challenge
The chairman of the Forum, Professor Hu Dayi, gave an academic speech of “Integration of sport and medicine, and healthy China.” Professor Hu mentioned, “cardiovascular events are not so as the beginning of treatment, rather than the failure of medical treatment.” Clinicians should actively participate in the prevention and secondary prevention of chronic diseases, create efficient and low-cost health management model of chronic disease. Particularly, cardiac rehabilitation is in an urgent need of improvement. The life style accounts for 60 % of the factors affecting the health and life of the individual. Therefore, in the current Chinese cardiac prevention and rehabilitation practice, the five major prescriptions – drugs, sports, nutrition, psychology and smoking cessation should be implemented, while the sport-medicine integration and non-medical health intervention should be strengthened to promote the profound integration of national fitness and health.
Several Chinese experts were also presenting to share the relevant practice of cardiac rehabilitation
Dr. Liang Jun from Peking University 6th Hospital introduced the clinical practice of “Psycho-cardiology medicine”; Dr. Ding Rongjing from Peking University People’s Hospital shared the “Self-help family cardiac rehabilitation model for three-class communities”; Dr. Xu Tao from the 2nd affiliated hospital of Gui Yang TCM University shared the “Retrospect and prospect of cardiac rehabilitation unit” in the cardiology department. In addition, Dong Yue, MTT therapist from CityReha Beijing (Soreha rehabilitation clinic) shared her six-month study experience at the German Cardiac Rehabilitation Hospital, focusing on the cardiac rehabilitation system in Germany and Europe, the development and effectiveness of the cardiac rehabilitation projects. In general, China is exploring the road of cardiac rehabilitation gradually while accumulating experience. Despite the difficulties, it has a good start: of “Psycho-cardiology medicine”, which pays attention to patients with heart disease and mental and psychological problems, has achieved great development. The self-help family cardiac rehabilitation model is gradually being extended and applied, and it is expected to alleviate the shortage of medical resources such as site and human resources in the future. The establishment of cardiac rehabilitation unit in the 2nd affiliated hospital of Gui Yang TCM University can be used as a successful precedent case of “integrated treatment model of Chinese and Western medicine to rescue, heal and rehabilitate”.
Q&A plus practical operation guidance
- more benefits from interactive learning
Participants listened carefully to academic speech, and appreciated that the forum was comprehensive with strong emphasis, vivid and informative, and they had benefited a lot. In the Q&A session, by actively asking and answered questions, participants and academic experts exchanged knowledge and experience.
In order to deepen the participants' understanding of theoretical knowledge, five workshops were set up in the MTT Centre of Psychosomatic Medicine Museum during the forum. MTT therapist Constanze Santarossa, Franziska Dingendorf and Dong Yue, and Philipp Heinzel, product manager from ergoline gave live demonstrations respectively on endurance training, resistance training, the ergo cardiopulmonary function rehabilitation system and the group training of patients with heart disease. Participants had the opportunity to try the equipment. Combination of theory and practice effectively ensured the learning results.
Forge forward in the long road ahead
Cardiac rehabilitation is not a simple and random movement. It must learn from the rehabilitation theory of sports medicine, effective exercise evaluation and scientific training technology. It must keep pace with the development of sports science, through interdisciplinary integration, to enable patients with cardiovascular diseases “fast, actual and safe" cardiac rehabilitation services, by which patients are able to improve their sports endurance, restore physical fitness, return to society and life, and reduce the incidence of unconscionable vascular incident. To achieve this goal, China still has a long way to go.
AIRS will continue to work together with the Orenda Tribe in the future, integrating global resources, introducing the most advanced international cardiac rehabilitation standards into China, as well as advancing development of cardiac rehabilitation in China!
